About the Position:
Reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for managing the financial actions of the organization; they perform effective risk management and plan the organization’s financial strategy. They oversee all divisional fiscal activity, including budgeting, reporting, operating costs and auditing. This role will ensure compliance with legal and regulatory documents and ensure that filings are completed by each divisional financial unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the ideation, planning and implementation of new and long-term business financial strategies.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop and execute corporate strategy and business plans to ensure that the company attains its short and long-term growth objectives.
  • Develop and mentor divisional Controllers and Senior Accountants to assist divisional performance with meaningful reporting and analysis, along with the performance of Controllers.
  • Provide guidance on corporate structure that provides operational transparency, while mitigating litigation and tax impacts.
  • Ensure appropriate accounting software is being utilized by all divisions, lead integration of new software or accounting tools and assist with ongoing updates and maintenance of accounting software.
  • Work closely with shareholders and executive leadership team to identify and assess new growth opportunities, both organic and through external business ventures.
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance to the Information Technology (IT) leadership team, ensuring budgeting, process improvement, and software implementation align with overall business objectives and industry best practices.
  • Manage the banking relationship and ensure reporting compliance with financial institutions.
  • Coordinate quarterly financial forecast meetings with senior leadership to discuss operational and financial performance.
  • Identify and address financial risks and opportunities for the company.
  • Collaborate with project managers and development teams to ensure financial alignment, accurate project costing and profitability analysis.
  • Oversee cash management and capital structure needs, identify working capital and debt financing needs.
  • Create a capital plan that aligns with overall business plans and strategies and review the capital plan.
  • Lead negotiations and establish finance arrangements with lenders to support the company's business initiatives and growth strategies.
  • Review and approval of transactional amounts involving wires, EFTs, cheques and payroll, and ensure adequate funds are in accounts. 
  • Lead corporate governance best practices and make suggestions on corporate governance practices that meet the long-term objectives of the key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial review materials and board materials and actively participate in all board and committee meetings.
  • Other related accounting and financial responsibilities.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field is desired.
  • Eight (8) or more years of executive management experience as a financial leader in a medium-to-large organization, with proven or demonstrated leadership abilities is required.
  • Experience working in the real estate or construction industry and/or healthcare industry would be an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles is required.
  • Understanding of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances, and legislation requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting and finance software such as Dynamics365, Sage, CaseWare, Concur, etc.
  • Excellent understanding of Canadian tax laws and regulatory requirements including GST, payroll taxes and construction specific tax issues.
  • A valid class five (5) driver’s license is required.
  • A clean drivers abstract is required for the operation of company vehicles on public roadways.
  • Comprehensive Background Check to the company’s satisfaction is required.
